Rosie

June 2010

Meet Rosie or "Solstice Rose" which was the name she came into rescue with.  I like to refer to her as "Rosarita Conchita"...hahaha.  She is a very happy go lucky girl who is just so full of life and energy, which is a far cry from where she came from.

Rosie was rescued by a loving person who went to Las Vegas to spend time with her daughter and help her move.  While this person was there she noticed many pit bulls living next door and one strange looking dog always outside, tied to a tree.  The lovely lady went next door and asked about the dog tied to the tree and was told they simply kept her there.  So upon inquiring further she was told by the owner if she wanted her she could have her!  Of course, she gladly saved Rosie from that life of being chained to a tree in the hot Nevada sun.  This was a few months ago.....

Once Rosie left Nevada she returned home with her rescuer to Oregon.  It was soon discovered that Rosie LOVES children and all people.  She is very gentle with them and wants so badly to be loved and please you.  She can be a little over zealous at times because of her size and energy.  Since it was never the intent of the rescuer to keep Rosie she began looking for a suitable home for her.  She went through the regular avenues of advertising and got the typical replies to her ad from people who really weren't familiar with the breed or the demands of a dog that craves human attention only.

That's when NRI came to rescue Rosie.  I traveled south to pick her up and meet her wonderful rescuers.  We met at a rest stop and Rosie was with her foster family who had 2 very small children.  It was apparent from the beginning Rosie loved and protected those human babies.  She let me approach and kept her eye on the kids, just as any loyal Neo would do.  We had a great visit and Rosie and I headed home to Washington State.

After having had Rosie for a few months now I've discovered that in spite of being chained to a tree she must have spent some time in her life as a house dog because she is potty trained and very comfortable to lay around and snore the days away!  This is all great but she has her pitfalls.  Rosie believes she is a QUEEN who was put on this planet to enjoy ALL the attention from her human family.  She wants NOTHING and I mean absolutely NOTHING to do with other animals - of any kind, this includes, dogs, cats, critters and even livestock.  She is not a mean spirited dog by any means she just refuses to share and views all other animals as competition.  Let me emphasize here that if you have ANY other pets or live in a crowded neighborhood with other pets next door you will not be considered for Rosie.

Rosie will do best as an only fur-child.  It's my opinion as her foster parent that she will never learn to accept or even become interested in sharing her life with another animal, and that's okay.  Not every dog desires a four legged companion.  She will require a fenced yard and prefer a home with children.  She is spayed and current on her vaccines.
